Box Score Junior Trevor Healey (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) recorded his first double-double of the year as the Keuka College men's basketball team picked up its second win of the year with a 101-72 triumph over Alfred State Saturday in the consolation game of the 29th annual Harold J. Brodie Tournament at RIT Saturday afternoon.
Healey scored 25 pts with 11 rebounds and 4 assists to earn All-Tournament Team honors while classmate Jared Wagner (Pittsford, NY/McQuaid) added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals in the Storm's highest point output in regulation since scoring 100 points during a home win over Cazenovia College Jan. 22, 2007.
Sophomore Vinney Zambito (Elba, NY/Batavia Notre Dame) added 13 points with three assists, classmate Casey Williams (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) had 7 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists and junior Tyler Hixson (Shortsville, NY/Red Jacket) tallied eight points in the win.
Healey shot 58.9 percent from the floor (10-for-17) while Zambito made 3 of 5 three-pointers to spark the Storm (2-2), who defeated Alfred State (0-4) for the second time in five days.
Keuka shot 32-for-66 (48.5 percent) for the contest, including a red-hot 15-for-28 (53.6 percent) in building a 45-30 first-half lead.
The Green and Gold clamped down on defense and limited the Pioneers to 19-for-51 shooting (37.3 percent), including 10-for-28 (35.7 percent) in the second half.
Keuka trailed 7-3 early on, but rattled off a 20-5 run to seize control for good. Wagner and Zambito hit back-to-back 3s to start the run, and Zambito accounted for eight straight points and Healey added six points to spark the Storm.
Healey and Hixson combined for the Storm's first 12 points of the second half as Keuka held a 57-41 lead on a Healey layup with 15:45 remaining. That basket started an 18-0 run as the Storm took a 73-41 lead on a Williams free throw with 12:50 remaining.
Keuka remained in control and never led by fewer than 28 points. When Wagner and senior Patrick Campbell (Avon, NY/Avon) each hit 3s, the Storm took their largest lead, 91-57 with 5:56 remaining, and Keuka breezed to the win.
Keuka travels to defending North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) champion Morrisville State for a 5 p.m. clash Tuesday night in the Storm's NEAC opener. Keuka split with Morrisville during the 2012-13 season, winning 59-50 at home and falling 79-69 on the road.
