Box Score Junior Austin Gerber (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) scored late in regulation, but the Keuka College men's soccer team couldn't overcome a two-goal deficit and fell to Morrisville State 2-1 on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
Freshman Paulin Kolodja (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) played a through ball into Gerber, who slotted his shot into the far post with 4:50 remaining in regulation to pull the Storm (4-6-1, 0-5 NEAC) within 2-1.
But the Green and Gold were unable to net the equalizer and fell to the Mustangs (8-4-2, 4-1-1).
Freshman Willie Romero (Jersey City, NJ/Hoboken) made seven saves in his second start in goal for the Storm, who were outshot 14-8 and had three corner kicks compared to nine for Morrisville State.
Morrisville's Jake Chase received a volley and scored into the near portion of the goal for a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute to open the scoring.
Keuka appeared to have a player taken down in the box halfway through the opening half, but no penalty kick was awarded.
The Mustangs had a solid look on goal with 11 minutes remaining in the half, but Romero came out of the goal and made a sliding stop on Philemon Appiah's shot, and the teams went into halftime with Morrisville leading 1-0.
Six minutes into the second, Chase got free and ripped a 15-yard shot on goal, but Romero leapt to his left to make the save.
Morrisville appeared to have a second goal with 30 minutes remaining in regulation, but an offsides nullified the tally and the Mustangs clung to a 1-0 lead.
Off a one-touch pass, Joe Sheehan converted into the near post for a 2-0 Morrisville lead with 16 minutes remaining.
Gerber scored to make it a one-goal game, but despite more pressure, the Storm couldn't net the equalizer and suffered the loss.
The Storm close out the home portion of the schedule with a 7 p.m. non-conference clash Tuesday night against Alfred State, which will serve as Parents' and Senior Night.
