Box Score Freshman Casey Williams (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) scored a career-high 19 points and senior Teddy Tuggles (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) added 18 points and eight rebounds, but the Keuka College men's basketball team fell to first-place Morrisville State, 79-69 Wednesday night in Morrisville, NY.
Sophomore Trevor Healey (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) added 10 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists while senior Conor Boyer (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) had 7 rebounds, 6 points and 3 assists for Keuka (9-10, 7-4 North Eastern Athletic Conference), which was outrebounded 46-29 in the loss.
The Storm connected on 33.3 percent of their three-pointers (10-for-30), including shooting 42.9 percent (6-for-14) in the second half. Tuggles shot 4-for-11 on '3s' while Williams was 3-for-5.
Tuggles is 11 points shy of becoming the 10th student-athlete in Keuka history with 1,000 career points.
Jailaan Kinsey scored 18 points and Brandon Hanks added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the Mustangs (14-4, 8-1).
The Green and Gold stormed out to a 7-0 lead as Healey made a layup and Tuggles knocked down a '3' and a layup, but the Mustangs scored the next seven points to tie the score.
Neither team led by more than three points for the first 10 minutes of the opening half, and a Boyer layup knotted the score at 20 with nine minutes remaining before halftime. The Mustangs then went on a 22-5 run to take a 42-25 lead with 2:48 remaining, and Keuka entered halftime trailing 44-30.
The Storm trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half, and weree down 72-53 with 7:05 left before going on a 16-2 run to close within five, 74-69 with 34 seconds left.
Williams knocked down a pair of '3s' while Tuggles hit a '3' and a layup to spark the rally, but Morrisville pulled away for good by sinking five of six free throws down the stretch.
Keuka, which handed Morrisville a 59-50 loss on Dec. 5, 2012, is the only NEAC team to beat the Mustangs this year.
The Storm return home to face Penn State-Abington at 3 p.m. Sunday, followed by an 8 p.m. Senior Night contest against Cazenovia on Feb. 6.
