Strong First Half Lifts Women's Hoops

Junior Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) scored a season-high 22 points and the Keuka College women's basketball team used a 19-5 first-half run to pull away and defeat rival Gallaudet University 65-51 Saturday afternoon inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.

Bandrowski scored 15 first-half points while classmate Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) added 17 points, 6 steals, 3 assists and 3 rebounds for the Storm (7-2, 4-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference).

Sophomore Erica Pendrak (Utica, NY/New York Mills) added 10 points and eight rebounds while senior Mariah Mouzon (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) chipped in seven points and seven rebounds for Keuka, which out-rebounded Gallaudet (2-11, 0-6 NEAC) 51-37.

Bandrowski swished a '3' and made a layup while Mouzon converted a three-point play as the Green and Gold jumped out to an 8-2 lead early on. Gravel and Pendrak each added baskets while Bandrowski had a jumper to spark the Storm on a 10-0 run and an 18-4 lead six minutes in.

Leading 21-10 halfway through the opening half, the Storm went on a 19-5 spurt to seize control for good, 40-15 with two minutes left in the half.

On three consecutive possessions, Keuka converted steals into fast-break layups as Gravel had two fast-break buckets sandwiched around a Bandrowski steal and lay-in.

Keuka shot 48.6 percent (18-for-37) in the first half en route to a 43-19 halftime lead, tied for the most points the Storm have scored in a half all season. The lead never dipped below 15 points until the final minute of the contest.

The Storm held the Bison to 27.6 percent shooting (8-for-29) in the opening half, and 36.7 percent (22-for-60) for the game.

Lindsay Stergio scored 17 points with eight rebounds while Claire Tucker added 14 points for Gallaudet, which has dropped 11 straight.

The Storm hosts Penn State-Harrisburg at 1 p.m. Sunday, the second of three straight home games.
