Women's Hoops Survives Late Rally, Beats Pitt-Bradford

Junior Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) scored a game-high 19 points and the Keuka College women's basketball team survived a late rally to knock off the University of Pitt-Bradford 61-56 Tuesday night in Keuka's home opener inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.

Classmate Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) added 13 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals while senior Mariah Mouzon (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) had 11 points and eight rebounds for the Storm (2-1).

Keuka led the whole game, racing out to a 13-2 lead en route to a 35-23 halftime advantage. The Green and Gold's lead grew to 45-32 on a layup from sophomore Erica Pendrak (Utica, NY/New York Mills), but Pitt-Bradford (1-2) went on a 12-0 run to pull within one point on a '3' from Melanie Yanetsko with 7:37 remaining.

The Storm responded as junior Casey Chamberlain (Perry, NY/Perry) grabbed an offensive rebound and converted the putback and Gravel drained a '3' for a 5-0 run and a 50-44 lead.

On back-to-back possessions, Mouzon and junior Taylor Szwec (Candor, NY/Candor) each converted three-point plays as the Storm went on an 11-2 run.

The visiting Panthers pulled within 59-56 on a '3' from Alicia Kimmel, but Bandrowski and Mouzon each made a free throw and Pitt-Bradford missed its last five shots as the Green and Gold hung on.

Chamberlain finished with 7 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals while Szwec had 5 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists for Keuka, which out-rebounded Pitt-Bradford 46-34 but committed 25 turnovers to just 13 for the Panthers.

Yanetsko scored 15 points with nine rebounds while Carly Dalton added 12 points for Pitt-Bradford.

Keuka takes on Hilbert College at 6 p.m. on Monday night, Nov. 26.
