Box Score While it still goes into the books as a tie, members of the Keuka College men's soccer team had to be pleased with their performance during Tuesday night's 1-1 draw with Alfred University in a non-conference game.
Playing on the road, Keuka (5-3-1) was outshot 12-1 in the first half, but despite being outshot, the game was scoreless thanks to a stout Storm defense and the play of junior goalie Derek Condon (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), who stopped anything that came close to the net in making five saves.
Following the scoreless first half, the Saxons (4-5-2) netted the game's first goal when Jeffery Thomas scored in the 61st minute.
Undeterred, the Storm kept up the attack and finally broke through with the equalizer thanks to some late-match heroics from junior Nate Smith (Hilton, NY/Hilton). With the clock winding down and the game entering the 89th minute, Smith tied the game by ripping a 25-yard shot that sailed into the upper-right portion of the goal, his fifth goal of the season.
Condon finished with a career-high 15 saves in playing all 110 minutes for Keuka, which earned a draw despite being outshot 40-6, and 10-1 in the overtime sessions.
The Storm returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon with a NEAC matchup at SUNY Cobleskill.
