Women’s Soccer Nets Six in Shutout of SUNY Canton

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Soccer team had five different goal scorers as the Wolves topped SUNY Canton 6-0 at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex on Wednesday.

Lydia Lane led the way for Keuka College (3-2, 0-1 Empire 8) with a pair of goals. Cali Knapp and Ava Watt each got their first of the season, and Delaney Goodenow and Jessica Miller added tallies in the victory. Lily Green made a pair of saves in goal for the shutout.

Keuka College 6 vs. SUNY Canton 0
The Wolves looked to race past SUNY Canton early in the first half, but the Green and Gold's timing was just off as they were called for offside multiple times in the opening minutes. Keuka College had a chance in the 10th minute as Nadia Wehbe laid a ball off to a charging Jessica Miller. The graduate student went in on a breakaway, but it was saved by the Canton keeper. The Wolves would break through minutes later, however, as Lydia Lane let a shot go from outside the box that went over the keeper and in for the 1-0 lead. Three and a half minutes later, Keuka College struck again. Kylie Sticker took the ball down the right wing and sent a strong cross into the box. The ball found the foot of Cali Knapp, who put it away for her first career goal and 2-0 advantage.

It did not take long in the second half for the Wolves to add to their lead. Keuka got a corner kick early in the frame. Anna Leone sent the ball into the middle of the box and Delaney Goodenow was able to get on the other end of it in the middle of the box for the 3-0 lead 77 seconds into the second half. Keuka remained in control for the rest of the game. Jessica Miller got on the scoresheet with Keuka's fourth goal in the 53rd minute. Less than three minutes later, Lydia Lane made it 5-0 with her second goal of the game. The scoring was capped by Ava Watt with 20 minutes left to play as the Wolves defeated the Roos 6-0.

KC Notes:
  • Wednesday was just the second meeting between Keuka College and SUNY Canton. The Wolves have won both matchups
  • The goal by Cali Knapp was the first of her career
  • Kylie Stickler and Katie O'Gara recorded their first collegiate assist and point in the win as well
  • It was the first shutout for first-year keeper Lily Green in goal as well for the Wolves
  • Lydia Lane now has five goals over the first five games for the Wolves. She is already tied with Grace DeCapua for the most by a Keuka College player in a season in the Empire 8 era
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will look to carry the momentum into the weekend as they return to conference play. Keuka College will host Elmira College on Saturday afternoon at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex. The Wolves will be looking for their first win since 2021 against the Soaring Eagles.
