Wolves Downed by Wells in NEAC Quarterfinals

AURORA, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team lost on Tuesday in straight sets to Wells College in the quarterfinals of the North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament.

Senior Lauren Moelbert led the way for Keuka College (11-19) with 13 kills and Grace Allen added 12 kills in the loss. Alyssa Rex had 34 assists and 11 digs while Emily Cottrell finished with 15 digs.

Wells College 3 vs. Keuka College 1 – 25-15, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19

Wells College used a large run to take control of the opening set against Keuka College. Tied at 3-3, the Express scored nine straight to take a 12-3 lead. The Wolves would pull the margin back to five at 10-15, but it would be as close as they would get as Wells won the first set 25-15.

The second set started back and forth with ties and lead changes. The Wolves would be ahead 9-6, but the Express scored the next eight points to take a 14-9 lead. The Express later scored the final five points of the second set to win it 25-16, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Wolves would fall behind early but rallied to extend the match in the third set. Trailing 22-20, Keuka scored four straight, including a pair of aces by Kayla Brown to take a 24-22 lead. A kill by Abby Anderson gave Keuka the third set 25-23, extending the match.

In the fourth set, Wells jumped out to an early lead, but Keuka College responded to take an 11-8 lead in the set. Wells regained the lead, but the Wolves tied it at 17-17. The Express would pull it out in the end as Wells scored the final four points of the set to win the fourth 25-19 to win the match 3-1 and end Keuka College's season.

  • The Wolves are now 6-7 all-time against Wells College. The Express have won the last six meetings
  • Tuesday was the first ever postseason meeting between Wells and Keuka in volleyball
  • Keuka College is now 13-16 in the NEAC Tournament
  • Grace Allen passed 200 kills for the season in the match with the Express
  • Emily Cottrell had an ace in the match, giving her 127 in her career. She moved into a three-way tie for tenth on the career aces list
  • Lauren Moelbert finished her Keuka College career with 811 career kills. She passed Renee Baumgartner on Tuesday night for ninth all-time
  • Senior setter Alyssa Rex finished her career with 2,559 career assists, third most in program history
