Wolves Fight Tough in Women’s Volleyball Loss

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team dropped a hard fought three-set match to St. John Fisher College on Wednesday night at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Keuka College (0-5) was led by 13 kills from Lauren Moelbert. Alyssa Rex finished with 20 assists and Emily Cottrell had 10 digs for the Wolves.

St. John Fisher College 3 at Keuka College 0 – 25-18, 25-22, 27-25

Keuka College played the Cardinals tight in the first set. They would take an early 4-2 lead, but St. John Fisher answered back with a run to take a 7-4 advantage. The Cardinals would stay in front for the rest of the set. Keuka College would trim the gap to two at 19-17, but St. John Fisher scored six of the final seven points to take the first set 25-18.

The Wolves once again took an early lead in the second set. Keuka led by three at 12-9, but the Cardinals responded to tie regain the lead. Keuka would tie the set at 16-16 on a kill from Grace Allen, but the Cardinals would push towards the set victory. Another Allen kill made it a one-point game at 23-22, but St. John Fisher closed it out to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The start of the third set was close with multiple ties and lead changes. Keuka would take the lead on a 6-0 run making it 17-12. The Cardinals would not go away. They fought to tie the match at 22-22. Trailing 24-23, Lauren Moelbert had back-to-back kills for Keuka to give the Wolves a 25-24 lead and a chance to serve for the set. However, the Cardinals scored the next three points to take the third set 27-25, sweeping the match 3-0.

Up Next for Keuka College: Today's match starts a six-match homestand for Keuka College. The Wolves will host the Keuka College Invitational this weekend with Keuka playing a pair of games on both Friday and Saturday. Friday starts with Keuka facing Alfred State and they then close the day with a match against Hartwick College.
