Women’s Volleyball Defeats SUNY Poly in Five Sets

MARCY, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficet to defeat SUNY Poly in five sets on Tuesday in a North Eastern Athletic Conference North Division match.

Keuka College (7-17, 5-4 NEAC) was led Lauren Moelbert with 13 kills in the match. She was also second on the team with 12 digs. Emily Cottrell led the Green and Gold with 14 digs in the match. Cottrell also added four of Keuka's 16 aces. The offense flowed through Alyssa Rex. The junior setter finished with 30 assists in the win.

Keuka College 3 (26, 13, 12, 25, 15) at SUNY Poly 2 (24, 25, 25, 21, 9)

Neither team led by more than three points during the entire first set. With the frame tied at 24-24, Keuka College took advantage of a SUNY Poly service error for the 25-24 lead. The Wolves closed the set with a kill by Lauren Moelbert as Keuka College won the set 26-24.

SUNY Poly took the momentum away from the Wolves quickly. The Wildcats used big runs and controlled the next two sets to take a 2-1 lead in the match. SUNY Poly won the second set 25-13 and the third 25-12.

The Wildcats held a 15-14 lead in the fourth set, looking to close the match out, but Keuka College did not give up. The Wolves rallied to take a 19-16 lead over the Wildcats. An ace by Kayla Brown gave Keuka a 25-21 fourth set victory, forcing a fifth and final set.

The Green and Gold built a 7-3 lead in the fifth set and led 8-5 at the change-over. Lauren Moelbert closed the match with a kill giving the Wolves a 15-9 fifth set victory and Keuka College a 3-2 conference victory.

Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves close the regular season on the road with a tournament on Friday and Saturday. Keuka College will face Hiram College and the College at Brockport on Friday at Brockport. They will then take on Houghton College and SUNY Geneseo at Houghton on Saturday.
