Wolves Lose Pair on Senior Day

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team lost a pair of matches on Sunday, losing to the University of Rochester in straight sets and to SUNY Canton in four sets.

Senior Katelyn Warren had 14 kills on the day for Keuka College (6-17, 4-4 NEAC) and fellow senior Meg Calhoun was right behind her with a combined 11 in the two matches. Emily Cottrell had 17 digs on the day and Alyssa Rex finished with 35 assists.

University of Rochester 3 (25, 25, 25) at Keuka College 0 (10, 19, 17)

Keuka College fell behind early, but battled back to make it a two-point match at 8-6. Rochester used small runs throughout the set to re-establish their lead. The Yellow Jackets scored the last eight points of the set to win it 25-10.

The Wolves battled tough in the second set, trailing 9-7. However, Rochester scored the next six points to grow their lead and continued onto the 25-19 victory.

The Yellow Jackets closed the match out in the third. They jumped out to a 6-0 lead and led 10-1. The Green and Gold got it back to a five-point deficit, 21-16, but the University of Rochester closed it out, winning the third set 25-17 and the match 3-0.

Lead Wolf: Katelyn Warren led Keuka College with six kills in the match.

SUNY Canton 3 (18, 27, 25, 25) at Keuka College 1 (25, 25, 20, 8)

Keuka College started strong in the second match. The Wolves built out a 14-3 lead over the Roos. SUNY Canton attempted to stay in the match, but a kill by Janessa Vaadi gave Keuka a 25-18 first set victory.

The Wolves looked to take a 2-0 lead in the match in the second set. It was their best offensive set of the day with 15 kills as a team. The set came down to the wire as it was tied at 21-21, 22-22, 23-23, 24-24, and 25-25. SUNY Canton was able to push the final two points to win the second 27-25, leveling the match at 1-1.

SUNY Canton took the momentum of winning the second set and carried it throughout the rest of the match. The Roos won the third set 25-20 and took the fourth 25-8 to win the match 3-1.

Lead Wolf: Katelyn Warren once again led the offense for Keuka College with eight kills in the match. She added a team-high four service aces for the Green and Gold.

  • SUNY Canton defeated Keuka College by the same score earlier in the season

Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves will play their final North Eastern Athletic Conference match of the regular season on Tuesday as they travel to SUNY Poly to face the Wildcats. Poly was won the last two meetings between the two schools, but Keuka College still leads the all-time series 16-11, dating back to 1994.
