Women’s Volleyball Falls in Four at Nazareth

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team lost on Friday night at Nazareth College in four sets.

Keuka College (6-15, 3-4 NEAC) was led by junior Lauren Moelbert with 10 kills. Grace Allen and Kayla Brown tied for the team lead with seven digs apiece Alyssa Rex finished with 27 assists.

Keuka College started strong on Friday night at Nazareth College. The Wolves led 6-2 early, but the four-point margin would be as wide as either team would make it in the first. Keuka College had five different players record kills in the tightly played set. A kill by Lauren Moelbert gave the Wolves a chance to win the set on the serve, but Nazareth scored the final three points of the set to win it 27-25.

In the second set, Keuka College once again got out to an early lead on the Golden Flyers, but Nazareth responded. Nazareth College pushed a five-point lead at 12-7, triggering a Keuka timeout. The Wolves responded with three straight points following the break. Keuka would continue to fight in the set. A solo block by Katelyn Warren tied the set at 21-21, forcing Nazareth to their second timeout of the set. The Green and Gold capped the second set comeback with a kill by Lauren Moelbert, winning the second set 25-23 and leveling the match at 1-1.

The Golden Flyers remained in control for most of the third set. Alyssa Rex and Meg Calhoun each had three kills in the set and Lauren Moelbert added three aces in the frame, but it was not enough as the Wolves fell 25-18.

Keuka fought hard in the fourth set. They held an early lead and tied the match multiple times early on. However, the Nazareth attack was tough in the set as the Golden Flyers went on to win the set 25-14 and the match 3-1.

  • Nazareth College has won the last three matches with Keuka College and have a 33-11 record overall
  • Keuka College won the service battle on Friday with a 10-8 advantage in aces against the Golden Flyers. Keuka College also had two fewer service errors than Nazareth

Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves host a tri-match on Sunday, October 22 at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center. Keuka College will host the University of Rochester at 11am and then play SUNY Canton at 3pm. Prior to the 3pm match, Keuka College will honor the families of the 2017 Women's Volleyball team as well as the graduating class of 2018 in their annual Parents' and Senior Day ceremony.
