POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Volleyball lost both matches on day one of the North Country Invitational. The Wolves lost to the two host schools, Clarkson University and SUNY Potsdam, both in straight sets.
Clarkson University 3 (25, 25, 25) vs. Keuka College 0 (8, 16, 6)
The Golden Knights came out fast on their home court. Clarkson raced to a 5-0 lead in the first set and extended it out to 10-2. They would control the opener 25-8. In the second set, Keuka stayed within striking distance. The Wolves would trail by just four, 17-13 following a kill by Lauren Moelbert. However Clarkson would rip off five straight points to take control of the second set, riding the run to a 25-16 victory. The third set was all Clarkson. They had a .478 hitting percentage in the set while Keuka struggled to find their attacking rhythm. The Golden Knights won the third set 25-6, taking the match 3-0.
Lead Wolves: Junior Lauren Moelbert lead Keuka in kills against Clarkson. The Hamburg, N.Y. native had seven kills and added in seven digs for the Wolves.
SUNY Potsdam 3 (25, 25, 25) vs. Keuka College 0 (22, 7, 12)
The Wolves played the Bears to a tight opening set. Keuka College had more kills than SUNY Potsdam in the first, 12-11, but they also had more errors, 8-3. That would prove to be the difference as SUNY Potsdam took the opening set 25-22. The Bears rode that momentum to a 25-7 victory in set two and a 25-12 victory in the third and final set as they swept Keuka College on Friday night.
Lead Wolf: Freshman Brooke Buck had a strong defensive showing for the Wolves. She tied her career-high with 11 digs to lead Keuka. Buck also added an ace in the match.
- Clarkson University has won the last five meetings with the Wolves. Overall, the Golden Knights lead the all-time series 11-9. The two teams first faced each other in 1985
- Friday was the first time that Keuka College has faced SUNY Potsdam in 14 years. Keuka won the meeting in 2003, but that was their lone win in the series. Dating back to 1977, Keuka and Potsdam have played six times with the Bears winning five of the meetings
- Jadine Buddingh posted a season-high nine kills against SUNY Potsdam
Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves will continue in the North Country Invitational on Saturday. Keuka College will start the day against St. Lawrence University and then close out the invitational with a match against SUNY Canton.
