Wolves Earn First Win on Saturday

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Volleyball came away with a split and their first win of the season on Saturday in the Keuka College Invitational. The Wolves dropped their first match to Chatham University, but rallied and won their second match of the day against Hilbert College.

The Keuka College (1-3, 0-0 NEAC) offense was once again fed through Alyssa Rex . The junior had a team-high 27 assists and added 11 digs on Saturday. Jadine Buddingh had a combined 18 kills for Keuka, a team-high. Junior Lauren Moelbert finished with a combined 10 kills, nine digs, and seven aces.

Keuka College 1 (26, 15, 16, 17) vs. Chatham University 3 (24, 25, 25, 25)

After Chatham took an early 8-4 lead in the first set, the Wolves were able to pull even at 8-8 and take a 16-13 lead on a couple of long service runs by freshman Brooke Buck and senior Katelyn Warren. The Wolves would go on to win the first set 26-24. In the second set Chatham exploded out to a 17-4 lead. The Cougars would take the second set at 25-15, pulling the match even at 1-1. Chatham jumped out to another big lead in the third set and carry it to a 25-16 set win. The fourth set was once again controlled early by Chatham as the Cougars took a 12-5 lead. The would secure the match victory by taking the fourth set by the score of 25-17.

Lead Wolves: The Keuka College offense in the first match was led by Meg Calhoun. The senior had a team-high nine kills in the loss.

Keuka College 3 (25, 25, 25) vs. Hilbert College 0 (14, 18, 19)

In their second match of the day, the Keuka College Wolves jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first set. The Wolves would not let the lead slip as they won the set 25-14. In the second set, it was back and forth until the Wolves gained a slight edge at 16-11. The Wolves would turn that lead into a 25-18 second set win. Keuka College created a little separation with a 10-6 lead early in the third set and would carry it to a 25-19 win, sweeping the Hawks.

Lead Wolf: Lauren Moelbert had triple sevens on Saturday. The junior led Keuka College in kills, digs, and aces, finishing with seven of each.

KC Notes:

  • It was just the second ever meeting between Chatham University and Keuka College. The Cougars leveled all-time series with the Wolves at 1-1
  • Keuka College earned their third straight victory over Hilbert College. Overall, Keuka has won 26 of 29 matches against the Hawks
  • The seven aces by Moelbert set a new career-high

Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves have a week off before travelling to Northern New York next weekend. Keuka will participate in the North Country Invitational, hosted by Clarkson University and SUNY Potsdam. The Green and Gold will face the two host schools on Friday night and then square off with St. Lawrence and SUNY Canton on Saturday.
