Late Guernsey Goal Lifts Keuka Over Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Soccer team opened North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a 1-0 victory at Morrisville State on Saturday afternoon.

Brooke Guernsey scored for Keuka College (2-3, 1-0 NEAC) with less than five minutes left to play to lift the Wolves. Freshman Jessica Pegg made three saves in goal to earn her first career shutout.

Keuka College had chances early as they controlled play throughout. The Wolves failed to take advantage of a penalty kick in the seventh minute. The Wolves continued to attack and had a ball past the keeper but cleared of the line in the 13th minute. Keuka College also hit posts as Keuka outshot Morrisville 12-3, but the game would go to halftime scoreless.

The Green and Gold continued to pressure the Mustang goal. They had a 15-2 advantage in shots in the second half. Keuka would finally breakthrough in the 86th minute. In a scramble off a save, Kelsey Maurer tapped the ball to Brooke Guernsey for the tap in goal to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead. Keuka College would continue onto the victory to open conference play.
