MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman Emily McGuigan scored with 46 seconds left to go in the first overtime to lift Keuka College to a 3-2 victory over Morrisville State College on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolves (4-3, 3-1 NEAC) take to the road next weekend for a North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Green and Gold will play at Gallaudet University on Saturday and at Wilson College on Sunday.
McGuigan had an impact on all three goals for the Wolves. She assisted on the first and scored the second. The freshman now has five goals scored on the season. Nicole Browe also scored for Keuka and Jordan Fredell had the assist on McGuigan's game-winner. Talia Cruz made seven saves in the win.
The Wolves got on the board first on Saturday. Emily McGuigan let a shot rip in the 12th minute. Nicole Browe tapped in the goal following a diving save by the Mustangs' keeper on the initial shot. 63 seconds later, Nicole Browe set up Emily McGuigan for a one-timed shot to the left corner, giving Keuka College a 2-0 advantage. Morrisville State broke through in the 38th minute with a goal, but Keuka carried a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Morrisville State got the game tying goal early in the second half, knotting the game at 2-2. The Wolves controlled the play in the half, getting 16 shots in the period. The goalie for Morrisville turned away all 12 that were on goal and the game went to overtime, tied 2-2.
The Mustangs had a change to close the game out with a wide open player, but Cruz made the save in goal to continue the game. As the first overtime session was coming to a close, Jordan Fredell found Emily McGuigan. The freshman let a shot go from the top of the box into the top right corner of the goal to give Keuka College the 3-2 overtime victory.
