Second Half Surge Lifts Keuka College Over Wells

AURORA, N.Y. – Keuka College scored three second half goals to defeat hosts Wells College 3-0 on Sunday in both teams North Eastern Athletic Conference opener.

The Wolves (2-2, 1-0 NEAC) next travel to SUNY Poly on Saturday to face the Wildcats. Keuka will then play their first home game of the season as they host SUNY Cobleskill on Sunday.

Freshman Allison Ariola scored the eventual game winner for the Green and Gold, with Nicole Browe getting the assist. Emily McGuigan and Janelle Bartlett added goals for the Wolves later in the half. Talia Cruz earned her first collegiate shutout, making four saves against the Express.

Keuka College came out of the gate fast attacking Wells' goal. Keuka had multiple shots that were off or saved in the opening minutes. Wells logged their first shot 14 minutes into the game. Keuka held an 11-4 shot advantage in the first half, but the two teams went into the halftime break tied 0-0.

Both teams battled for possession in the opening minutes of the second half. Keuka got the first shot of the half in the 54th minute as Abbey David rang the ball off the post. Nicole Browe collected the rebound and found Allison Ariola for the goal, giving the Wolves a 1-0 lead. The Green and Gold would add insurance in the final 10 minutes of the half. Keuka pushed the ball into the penalty area and Emily McGuigan was able knock it home for the 2-0 advantage. With 1:15 left to play, Nicole Browe put a shot off the post but Janelle Bartlett scored off the rebound as Keuka would open their NEAC schedule with a 3-0 victory over Wells College.
