KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with Alfred University on Wednesday at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
Keuka will have a week break before hosting Hartwick College next Wednesday, September 16 at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex at 7pm.
Keuka got out to a fast start, controlling possession in the opening minutes. They created a quick chance on a long ball that Nicole Browe raced after the ball but the Saxon (1-2-1) keeper came off her line and tackled the ball away. Minutes later, Browe had another chance off of a punt from Kenna Kosinski. The ball beat the Alfred back line on a bounce, but Browe slid the shot just past the right post. Keuka continued to threaten with through and long balls, but Shanahan continued to play off her line for Alfred and stopped any attack. The two teams went into the halftime break tied 0-0.
Alfred came out with the early chances in the second half. They pushed the ball deep down the left flank, but Kosinski was able to intercept the cross. A minute later, Alfred let a shot loose from distance. Kosinski dove to her left and got a hand on it to deflect it off of the cross bar and rolled wide. The Wolfpack responeded in the 65th minute. Danielle Disimone sent a ball from midfield down the right side, finding the foot of Nicole Browe. Browe slid the ball to the right of the Saxon keeper for her first goal of the season and the 1-0 lead. Keuka added onto their lead in the 76th minute. The goal was once again set up by Disimone. The freshman sent a cross from the right side into the box and found the right foot of Shannon Sprague for the 2-0 advantage. The Saxons did not go away, however. Off of a corner kick, they headed home a goal with eight minutes left in the game. Alfred would score a second goal with just over a minute left to force overtime.
In the first overtime Abbey David slipped a through ball towards Hannah Dalle. Alfred's goalie beat Dalle to the ball, however, and cleared it wide. Alfred threatened with a minute left in the first overtime, but the ball went off the crossbar. The score remained 2-2 after the first overtime period.
Keuka College got an early chance in the second period, but Katie Talbot's header off of a corner kick was saved. The majority of the rest of the period was played on Keuka's defensive end, but no real pressure was applied to the net. Keuka had one last push at net, but Abbey David's shot was saved and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
