A quick-strike Keuka College women's soccer team scored twice in a span of 34 seconds to spark the Wolfpack to a 3-1 win over Cazenovia College Wednesday afternoon at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
Freshman Nicole Browe (Kendall, N.Y./Kendall) and sophomore Jordan Fredell (Wurtsboro, N.Y./Monticello) scored back-to-back goals in the fourth minute, and Browe finished with two goals as the Wolfpack (2-2, 2-0 NEAC) remained perfect in conference play.
Freshman Kenna Kosinski (Mumford, N.Y./Caledonia-Mumford) made four saves in the win.
On both of the first-half goals, the Wolfpack used precise passing to score goals.
Freshman Emily Wolf (Hornell, N.Y./Hornell) recovered a loose ball in Keuka College's own zone before midfield, and played a nice through ball past two defenders to Browe. Browe, a forward, made a run and slotted her shot into the far corner of the net 3:13 into the opening half.
After the restart, the Wolfpack took the ball away from Cazenovia, and sophomore Kaitlyn Talbot (Hornell, N/Y./Arkport) played a through ball in to Fredell.
Fredell, a forward, took the pass in stride and scored into the near post past a diving Rachael McDonough just 3:47 into the first.
The Wolfpack dominated possession against the Wildcats (2-3, 0-3 NEAC) in the first and went to halftime with a 14-4 edge in shots.
The Green and Gold nearly had a third goal 7:48 into the second half. Browe beat two defenders and fired a shot from 12 yards out that sailed high over the crossbar.
The Wildcats got on the board in the 73rd minute. Off a rebound, Emily Graham collected the miss and scored into the upper central portion of the goal with 17:43 remaining in regulation.
Cazenovia nearly netted the equalizer two minutes later. Graham ripped a shot from 10 yards out, but Kosinski leapt to her right and came down with the save.
The Wolfpack survived another close call with 5:52 remaining. Nateasha Williams broke in on goal and had an open look on net, but her six-yard shot trickled wide of the goal.
Browe tacked on an insurance goal with 1:16 remaining. She blasted a left-footed shot from 10 yards out that curled into the upper corner of the far post for a 3-1 lead.
Browe had a breakaway in the closing seconds, but missed out on the hat trick when her shot was stopped by McDonough.
The Wolfpack hit the road for a three-game swing starting with a 2 p.m. NEAC clash Saturday with Wilson (Pa.) College.
