Women’s Lacrosse Falls in Home Opener

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Lacrosse team dropped their home opener on Monday by the score of 12-7 to Alfred University at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Keuka College (1-2) will remain at home this week as they host Hilbert College on Friday in a 4pm game.

Sydney Forshay led Keuka College with five goals on the afternoon. Samantha Staino and Kendall Neuberger each added tallies for the Green and Gold. Neuberger also added an assist, as did Ashley Appell, Maura Gosson, and Morgan Bruno. In goal for Keuka was Alyna Thayer. She recorded seven saves in the loss.

Keuka opened strong against the Saxons. Neuberger and Forshay each found the back of the net and Keuka led 2-0 in the first five minutes of action. Monday would prove to be a game of runs. The Saxons responded with three straight goals in just over three minutes to take a 3-2. Forshay started a Keuka run with a pair of goals and Staino added one, as the Green and Gold went on a 3-0 run of their own to take a 5-3 lead with just under 10 minutes left in the half. The Saxons had their response and took the lead, scoring three goals going into halftime. At the break, Alfred led 6-5.

Keuka had a response coming out of halftime. They opened the second with a two-goal run, with Forshay getting both the goals. Keuka held a 7-6 lead with 25:44 left to play. 27 seconds after Keuka took the lead, Alfred scored to the game at 7-7. It would be the start of the final run for the Saxons. They would scored six unanswered goals to close the game, securing a 12-7 victory over Keuka.
