ADA, OHIO – The Keuka College Women's Lacrosse team scored three of the final four goals of the game to take down host Ohio Northern University 11-10 on Sunday afternoon.
Keuka College (1-1) will open the home portion of their schedule. The Green and Gold will host Alfred University on Monday, March 14 at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
Samantha Staino and Sydney Forshay led Keuka College with three goals apiece. Staino also added an assists for a game-high four points. Freshman Kendall Neuberger continued her strong debut with two more goals. Also finding the back of the new for Keuka was Ashley Appell, Maura Gosson, and Morgan Bruno. Alyna Thayer made eight saves in goal to earn her first collegiate win.
Keuka got out to a strong start as Appell, Staino, and Forshay all scored in the opening ten minutes to give Keuka a 3-0 lead. The Polar Bears would get on the board but Staino had an answer to keep the margin at three. Two more free position goals and it was a 4-3 game with three minutes left in the first half. Maura Gosson set Kendall Neuberger up for a goal with two minutes left in the half to send Keuka into the halftime break with a 5-3 lead.
Within two minutes of play in the second, Ohio Northern drew the game level at 5-5. After a Gosson goal, the Polar Bears took their first lead of the game and the back and forth nature of the second half began to play out. One minute after Northern took the lead, Sydney Forshay tied the game at 7-7. A minute after that, the score was 8-7 in Keuka's advantage thanks to Morgan Bruno. Ohio Northern would take the lead back at 9-8 with ten minutes left to play. The Green and Gold made their final push. Goals by Staino, Neuberger, and Forshay gave Keuka a two-goal lead with two minutes left to play. The Polar Bears would get one back, but Keuka held on for the 11-10 victory.
