DELAWARE, OHIO – The Keuka College Women's Lacrosse fell in their season opener to host Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
Keuka College (0-1) will conclude their Ohio road trip tomorrow as they travel to Ada, Ohio to face Ohio Northern University.
Junior Maura Gosson led Keuka with a pair of goals in the game. She also had a team-high five draw controls. Freshman Kendall Neuberger netted a pair of goals in her first game for Keuka. Morgan Bruno had a goal and pair of assists for the Green and Gold. Also with goals on the day were Ashley Appell, Samantha Staino, and Sydney Forshay. Freshman Alyna Thayer made eight saves in goal for Keuka.
The Battling Bishops scored 23 seconds into the game on a free position shot, but Kendall Neuberger had the answer minutes later. She scored her first career goal to level the game at 1-1. After a 3-0 run by Ohio Wesleyan, the Green and Gold got back-to-back goals by Maura Gosson and Sydney Forshay to make it a one-goal game, 4-3, halfway through the first. Another run by Ohio Wesleyan, this time five goals, widened the margin to 9-3 with five minute left in the half. Gosson cut into the lead with her second of the game, but the Battling Bishops answered with a pair of goals. Morgan Bruno ended the half with a goal set up by Sydney Forshay, but Ohio Wesleyan led 11-5 at the break.
Ohio Wesleyan remained in control in the second half. Keuka would get goals from Appell, Staino on a free position, and Neuberger in the half, but the Battling Bishops had runs of three goals and five goals in the half to keep the game out of reach and secure the 20-8 victory.
