Senior Jennifer Burt (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) recorded her third four-goal game of 2015, but the Keuka College women's lacrosse team suffered a 19-9 loss to SUNY Canton Saturday afternoon in Canton, N.Y.
Burt scored four goals for the third time in six games, and Keuka (4-2) got two goals apiece from senior Kaycee Maguire (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) and sophomore Sydney Forshay (Clifton Springs, N.Y./Midlakes), but Canton (6-2) outscored the Wolfpack 9-1 down the stretch to pull away for the win.
Trailing 10-6 at halftime, Forshay scored on a free position shot, and Burt added a man-up goal on a free position shot as the Green and Gold trailed 10-8 with 17:24 remaining.
The Wolfpack held the Roos scoreless for the first 16:46 of the second half, but Tressa Goolden kick-started the decisive run with a tally with 13:14 remaining.
Canton scored three times in a span of 1:44 to seize a 13-8 lead, and following a goal from Maguire, Robyn Carroll pumped in four straight goals as the Roos scored the last six goals of the game.
Sophomore Morgan Bruno (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse) handed out two assists, while Bruno and Maguire each had three groundballs for Keuka.
Maguire won five draw controls and caused two turnovers, while sophomore Maura Gosson (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) won three draw controls for the Wolfpack.
Sophomore Samantha Peacock (Phelps, N.Y./Midlakes) came on to start the second half and made six saves in 30 minutes of action, including helping hold the Roos scoreless for nearly 17 minutes to open the half.
The Roos were led by Carroll (eight goals) and Goolden (four goals, one assist).
The Wolfpack travel to Wells College for a 4:30 p.m. NEAC clash Wednesday afternoon.
