The Keuka College women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of 2015 Thursday night, falling to visiting Utica College 19-4 at Penn Yan Academy.
Senior Olivia Hudson (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) scored a goal and added an assist, and Keuka (4-1) also got goals from senior Jennifer Burt (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan), and sophomores Morgan Bruno (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse) and Sydney Forshay (Clifton Springs, N.Y./Midlakes).
Forshay and Hudson each collected six groundballs, while sophomore Samantha Peacock (Phelps, N.Y./Midlakes) collected five groundballs for Keuka, which enjoyed a 37-21 edge in groundballs against the Pioneers (6-3).
Forshay and seniors Kaycee Maguire (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) and Maggie Mercurio (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) each caused two turnovers in the loss for the Wolfpack, who lost a regular-season contest for the first time since a 12-7 setback to Adrian (Mich.) College March 28, 2014.
Freshman Maeve Fletcher (Mechanicville, N.Y./Shenendehowa) stopped a career-high 10 saves for the Green and Gold.
Utica scored four goals in a span of 3:10 and held Keuka scoreless for 13 minutes until Bruno scored a man-up goal on a free position shot.
The Pioneers scored four unanswered goals to lead 8-1, but Hudson found Forshay for a tally with 1:14 remaining to slice the deficit to 8-2.
But Utica tacked on a goal late in the first half, and scored the first six goals of the second half to win for the fifth time in six games.
The Pioneers were led by Morgan DuPont (three goals, four assists), Courtney Wheeler (3G, 3A), Megan Kane (4G), and Brooke Miller (4G).
The Wolfpack travel to SUNY Canton for a 1 p.m. non-conference clash Saturday afternoon.
