Bloom Three in Final Minute Lifts Wolves over Medaille

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Sydney Bloom hit a three with 35 seconds left to give the Wolves the lead as Keuka College defeated Medaille College 53-50 in the first game of the Brockport Tip-off Tournament on Friday night.

Keuka College (2-0) was led by a career-high 21 from Sam Laranjo. Meaghan McGwin was in double-digits with 13 rebounds for the Wolves.

It was a slow start for the Wolves as Keuka opened the game 0-7 from the floor as Medaille led 7-2 midway through the first quarter. A baseline jumper by Meaghan McGwin was the first field goal of the game for the Wolves with 2:41 left in the quarter. The Wolves drew closer in quarter but trailed 12-8 after one.

An 8-2 start for the Wolves erased the deficit as Sam Laranjo knocked down back-to-back threes to give the Wolves a 15-14 lead with 7:34 left in the half. However, from that point on, Medaille College outscored the Wolves 16-3 in the second. The Green and Gold shot just 1-9 from the floor during that span and trailed 30-18 at the half.

The Wolves once again started fast in the third quarter. Sydney Bloom knocked down a three on the opening possession. The Wolves continued to cut into the Mavericks lead. Keuka College went on a 9-0 run to cut the margin to two, 32-30 with four minutes left in the third. The Green and Gold would tie the game at 32-32, but the Mavericks closed the quarter on a 6-0 run to lead 38-32 going to the final quarter.

Medaille College maintained their lead early in the fourth. The Wolves would cut the margin down to four multiple times in the frame. Sam Laranjo would convert a three-point play to make it a three-point game, 50-47 with 1:01 left to play. The Keuka College press forced a Maverick turnover. After a missed shot, Meaghan McGwin collected the rebound for the put-back layup and was fouled. The free throw was missed but Keuka got the offensive rebound. Sydney Bloom hit a three from the left wing to give the Wolves a 52-50 lead with 25.9 seconds left. Keuka got the stop and was fouled following the defensive rebound. The Wolves went 1-2 from the line, but held Medaille at the other end as Keuka came from behind to defeat the Mavericks 53-50.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will now await the winner of Alfred University and the College at Brockport to see who they will face in the championship game. Tip-off on Saturday is slated for 4pm.
