Defense Leads Keuka College to Victory

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team held Wells College to just 35 points in a 57-35 North Eastern Athletic Conference victory on Tuesday evening.

Reighly Melochick scored 15 points to lead Keuka College (13-5, 8-3 NEAC). She was the only player in double figures, but 12 of the 13 players in the game for Keuka College recorded at least a point. Jariah Johnson led with Wolves with six rebounds in the victory.

Keuka College 57 vs. Wells College 35

Keuka College jumped out to an early 11-0 lead, holding Wells College without a basket for nearly five minutes to start the game. Melochick scored seven in the frame and Amanda Wood added six points as Keuka College built a 15-9 lead in the first quarter.

The Green and Gold created separation in the second quarter. The Wolves held the Express to 7.7% shooting as Wells went just 1-13 from the field. Keuka allowed the first basket of the quarter with just 1:24 left in the second. The Wolves outscored Wells 20-2 in the quarter and led 35-11 at the half.

Keuka continued to pull away from the Express in the second half. The Wolves outscored the Express 14-8 in the third and led 49-19 going into the final quarter. In the fourth, Wells flipped the script and outscored Keuka College 16-8, but it was not enough as Keuka College would go onto the 57-35 North Eastern Athletic Conference North Division victory.

  • Sam Laranjo scored six points in the game to surpass the 300-point plateau for her career
  • Reighly Melochick knocked down three threes in the win. She now has 52 for the season, tying Danielle Gravel for third most in a season in program history

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves host Wilson College and Bryn Athyn College this weekend at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center. Keuka College is a perfect 14-0 all-time against Wilson College, but have lost their last two meetings with Bryn Athyn College.
