Career-highs by Stuart Leads Keuka College to Victory

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Senior Katie Stuart set new career-highs with 34 points and 16 rebounds as Keuka College defeated Cazenovia College 78-71 in Women's Basketball on Sunday.

Keuka College (9-9, 6-7 NEAC) takes their final roadtrip of the season next weekend for a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference games. The Wolves will face Wilson College on Saturday and Gallaudet University on Sunday.

Stuart's scoring leaves her at 999 points over her Keuka College career. Joining her in double figures was Lauren Anten with 14 and Sam Laranjo with 10 points.

The two teams went back and forth on Sunday, with neither team taking command of the opening quarter. The game was tied at 11-11 with two minutes left when Keuka made its move. Katie Stuart scored seven straight for the Wolves. Cazenovia made a late basket but Keuka led 18-13 after one.

In the second, Keuka College pushed its lead to double-digits. Over the final five minutes of the quarter, Keuka outscored Cazenovia 13-1. The Wolves pushed the Wildcats with their pressure defense. Keuka had nine steals and forced 14 Cazenovia turnovers in the opening half. Those resulted in 19 point for the Wolves as Keuka College led 38-24 at halftime.

Despite being down, Cazenovia would not go away on Sunday. The Wildcats forced some tough shots from Keuka, who went 3-20 from the field in the third. The Wolves made up for the scoring with seven free throws, but was outscored by Cazenovia 21-14 in the third. However Keuka remained ahead 52-45 going to the final quarter.

The Wildcats continued to cut into the lead. They had a chance to tie the game with 5:37 left to play, but Cazenovia went just 1-2 from the free throw line. One the other end of the floor, Katie Stuart converted a three-point play to give Keuka a 60-56 lead. That would be as close as the Wildcats would make it as Keuka quickly had their lead back to double-digits as they went on to defeat Cazenovia College 78-71 on Sunday.
