ALFRED, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Basketball team led for most of the game, but Alfred University pulled out the 78-74 victory over the Wolves on Tuesday night.
Keuka College (1-1) returns to the court after the Thanksgiving break, opening their North Eastern Athletic Conference schedule on November 30, playing at Morrisville State College.
Keuka College got out to an early lead on Tuesday night. Courtney Boyea led Keuka with five points in the quarter, but the difference was made by the Wolves' bench. Four players combined for 10 bench points in the first as Keuka led 19-13 after one.
The Wolves pushed the lead out to double-digits following a three-pointer by Arianna DeNault. However the Saxons battled back. A 7-0 run by Alfred drew the lead down. Keuka had a response and led by eight, 36-28, at halftime.
Keuka College led by 16 points halfway through the third quarter, but Alfred University would not go away. Once again, a 7-0 run by the Saxons sparked the comeback. Alfred scored five points in the final 30 seconds, but Keuka remained ahead 58-54 going into the fourth quarter.
A jumper by Lauren Anten just over three minutes into the quarter gave Keuka a 67-61 lead. Two minutes later, Sarah Tyler made a layup making it 69-65, but the Saxons would hold scoreless for over three minutes after that. Alfred went on an 8-0 run over that time to take a 73-69 lead over Keuka College. Katie Stuart snapped that run with a layup and followed that up with a three-point play to give the Wolves a 74-73 lead. Alfred would score the final five points of the night, however, as the Saxons defeated the Wolves 78-74.
