Wolves Run Past Roos 79-34

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Basketball team kicked off the 2016-17 season in grand fashion on Tuesday, defeating SUNY Canton 79-34 at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Keuka College (1-0) will have the next week off to prepare for their trip to Alfred University on November 22.

Katie Stuart led all players with 16 points on the night. Also in double-figures was freshman Britta Berguson with 11 points. Overall, 13 of the 15 players for Keuka College recorded at least a field goal in the game. The offense ran through freshman guard Sam Laranjo for most of the night. She finished with nine assists in her first collegiate game.

The Wolves got out to a fast start against SUNY Canton. Keuka College led 10-0 before Canton got on the board halfway through the first. Keuka had five steals against SUNY Canton in the first quarter and turned that into offense, leading 22-7 after the first.

It was more of the same in the second quarter for Keuka College, forcing 10 SUNY Canton turnovers with six steals. The Green and Gold had an answer for every SUNY Canton shot. The Wolves held them scoreless for the final 5:21 of the half. During that span, Keuka went on a 14-0 run to lead 52-15 at the half.

Keuka College used balanced scoring in the third quarter. Back-to-back threes by Katie Stuart and Courtney Boyea gave the Wolves a 42 point lead, 60-18. The lead later grew to 48 following consecutive layups by Sarah Tyler. Keuka would lead 70-25 going into the final quarter.

Both teams only scored nine points in the fourth quarter, but the game was well in hand for the Green and Gold as Keuka College opened their season with a 79-34 victory.
