KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost to division-leading SUNY Polytechnic 62-52 on Friday night at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.
Keuka College (7-16, 6-11 NEAC) will conclude the regular season on Saturday afternoon as they host SUNY Cobleskill.
Katie Stuart finished with a team-high 18 points on Friday. She also led Keuka in rebounding, pulling in nine boards. Lauren Anten was also in double-digits for Keuka, scoring 11 points. Sarah Tyler grabbed seven rebounds and added three assists in the loss.
The Green and Gold got out to an early lead over the Wildcats, but Poly responded. They went on a 10-0 run to take a 14-5 lead. Keuka answered back with a layup by Courtney Boyea and a three pointer by Katie Stuart, but SUNY Poly remained ahead 14-10 after the first quarter.
Mackenzie Cole converted a three point play in the opening minutes of the second to narrow the margin to three points, 16-13, but that would be as close as it would get in the second. The Wildcats grew their lead to 14 points, 35-21. Katie Stuart hit a three for Keuka to send them into the locker rooms trailing 35-24.
After alternating baskets early on, the two teams would both go scoreless for five minutes of play in the third. Once the scoring resumed, Keuka began to cut into the deficit. Abby Hess went on a personal 5-0 run to make it a five point game, 40-35 with two minutes left in the quarter. The Green and Gold outscored SUNY Poly 13-10 in the quarter, but still trailed 45-37 after 30 minutes of play.
The difference would quickly be back to 10 points in the final quarter, but Keuka did not back down. Lauren Anten made a pair of three pointers in the quarter. Her second made it 50-45 with four minutes left to play. Within the next minute, the Wildcats had the lead back to 10 points, 55-45, and SUNY Poly went onto the 62-52 victory.
