CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Basketball team defeated Cazenovia College on Wednesday night 71-55 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference matchup.
Keuka College (7-15, 6-10 NEAC) will return home this weekend. The Green and Gold hosts SUNY Poly on Friday night and SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday afternoon.
With the game tied at 4-4 early, Keuka scored six straight with baskets by Anten, Mackenzie Cole, and Sarah Janson. In the final minutes of the quarter, Sarah Tyler made a layup to push the lead to 10 points, 16-6. The Wildcats scored the final four points of the quarter, but Keuka led 18-10 after one.
The Green and Gold scored the first six points of the second quarter and held Cazenovia scoreless for the opening four minutes of play. A three pointer by Cheasman gave Keuka a 30-15 lead halfway through the frame. Keuka would lead 34-17 at halftime.
The two teams traded baskets for most of the third quarter. Cazenovia hit four threes in the quarter, but Keuka had their response. Courtney Boyea went 2-2 from deep in the third. Following a layup by Abby Hess with five seconds left in the quarter, Lauren Anten stole the inbounds pass and hit a three at the buzzer to give Keuka a 55-36 lead going into the final quarter.
Keuka would maintain their lead in the fourth. Cazenovia put together a 7-0 run to make it an 11-point game, 64-53. Sarah Tyler had the answer for Keuka with a basket to stop the streak and Keuka would continue onto the 71-55 victory.
