Keuka College Falls at SUNY Canton

CANTON, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Basketball lost to SUNY Canton 61-59 on Wednesday evening.

Keuka College (3-12, 2-7 NEAC) will return to North Eastern Athletic Conference action this Saturday as they travel to Morrisville State College to face the Mustangs.

Katie Stuart led Keuka with 19 points. Mackenzie Cole added 10 points. Samantha Blum  collected a game-high 12 rebounds.

On the back of a pair of three pointers, SUNY Canton got out to and early 8-4 lead over Keuka. The Green and Gold came back and took the lead following a three pointer by Lauren Anten. The Roos countered and went on a 6-0 run over the final minute of the quarter. Katie Stuart made a driving layup with five seconds left, but SUNY Canton led 16-14 after the first.

SUNY Canton grew their lead in the second quarter. They outscored Keuka 13-5 over the first six minutes of the quarter. The Green and Gold attempted to cut into the lead, but ever basket was answered by the Roos. Mackenzie Cole hit a three and Stuart had another layup in the final seconds as Keuka closed the half on a 5-0 run. SUNY Canton held a 39-29 lead at the break.

Keuka would crack Canton's lead down to single-digits in the third quarter, but the Roos continued to have a response to push it back to double-digits. With 3:25 left, Abby Hess made a layup and the following free throw. Two more free throws by Hess and the score was 48-43. The freshman's five points were part of a 7-0 that narrowed the margin. Following a jumper by Canton, Stuart made her third layup in the final seconds to make it 50-47 in favor of SUNY Canton following three quarters of play.

The Green and Gold opened in the final quarter with a 4-0 to take their first lead since the first quarter. The Roos responed with a 4-0 run of their own to take the lead back. With 4:28 left to play, Samantha Blum made a running layup to tie the game at 57-57. Two minutes later, Megan Cheasman gave Keuka a 59-57 lead on a put-back layup. The Roos would tie the game and take a two point lead into the final minute of play. Keuka would have the ball but could not get the game-tying shot to fall as they would lose to SUNY Canton 61-59.
