AURORA, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Basketball team was defeated by Wells College 55-44 on Saturday afternoon in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game.
Keuka College now holds a 1-3 conference mark and are 2-7 on the season. They will be back at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center this Wednesday as they host Morrisville State College at 8pm.
As a team, Keuka held the advantage on the boards. They recorded 43 rebounds while Wells only had 38.
Keuka College got out to an early lead over Wells College on Saturday afternoon. They outscored the Express 14-9 in the opening quarter of play. Lauren Anten netted half of the Green and Gold's points in the quarter with seven. Katie Stuart also added a three pointer to help stake Keuka to the early lead.
The Express opened up the second quarter with a 7-0 to overtake the lead. Keuka was held scoreless for nearly the first four minutes, but they would respond late. Lauren Anten made a jumper in the dying seconds of the half to give Keuka a one point lead, 24-23, going into halftime.
The two teams traded baskets for most of the third quarter. Keuka was able to grow their lead to six points, 36-30, following a Courtney Boyea three pointer with three minutes left in the third quarter. The Green and Gold led 36-32 going into the final quarter.
The Express came back and took control in the fourth quarter. Although Keuka went 6-6 from the free throw line in the quarter, they shot just 9% from the field. Wells countered by going 56% from the field. They outscored Keuka 23-8 in the final ten minutes to earn the 55-44 conference victory.
