MARCY, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Basketball dropped a North Eastern Athletic Conference game at SUNY Poly on Sunday by the score of 52-36.
Keuka College now stands at 2-5 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. This game also marks the end of the fall semester schedule. The Green and Gold will be back in action in 2016, hosting Alfred State on Wednesday, January 6.
Mackenzie Cole and Katie Stuart once again tied for the team lead in scoring with nine points. Samantha Blum had a career-high 15 rebounds to go with her eight points. It was the most rebounds by a Keuka player this season and ranks sixth on the Keuka College All-Time list.
The Green and Gold owned the rebounding advantage, 44-38, but the Wildcats forced Keuka into 24 turnovers in the game.
It took three minutes for either team to get on the scoreboard on Sunday. Mackenzie Cole made the first basket of the game 3:08 into the game. SUNY Poly quickly answered. Abby Hess quickly gave Keuka the lead back, but the Wildcats would go on an 18-2 run to close the first quarter with a 20-6 lead.
SUNY Poly went on another run, outscoring Keuka 9-2 over the first six minutes of the second quarter and led 30-12 at the break.
The third quarter was Keuka's best quarter of the game. They opened with a basket by Lauren Anten followed by a three pointer by Cole to narrow the margin to 13 points. The two teams would trade baskets the rest of the quarter. Keuka was never able to get the margin smaller than 13, however. The Green and Gold outscored SUNY Poly 16-12 in the quarter, but still trailed 42-28 after three quarters.
Keuka would continue to fight against the host Wildcats. Mackenzie Cole drilled a jumper halfway through the fourth to make it a 12 point game, 47-35, but SUNY Poly would outscore Keuka 5-1 over the final five minutes for the 52-36 victory.
