KEUKA PARK, N.Y. -- The Keuka College Women's Basketball team earned their first victory of the season, defeating Alfred University 73-38 at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center on Tuesday night.
Keuka College will enter the Thanksgiving holiday with a record of 1-3. They will be back in action on Wednesday, December 2 as they open North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Green and Gold will host Cazenovia College at 8pm.
Lauren Anten had a triple-double in her sights against the Saxons. The freshman finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Katie Stuart had a team-high 20 points for Keuka. Stuart also added six rebounds. Courtney Boyea chipped in with 12 points, a season-high, and Sarah Tyler scored a career-best nine.
Keuka was able to take advantage of Saxon mistakes. The Green and Gold turned 17 turnovers into 26 points. Keuka had a season-low of eight turnovers on the night.
The Green and Gold got out to a fast start. They scored the opening six points, all by Stuart. She had a layup, free throw, and three pointer, to give Keuka the early lead. The advantage would stretch late on a Lauren Anten three pointer and a pair of free throws by Sarah Janson. Keuka led 14-3 after the first quarter.
Keuka College pushed the lead to as many as 15, but the Saxons did not give in. they went on a 9-0 run in the quarter to get back into the game. Abby Hess made a jumper with 11 seconds left to stop the run and give Keuka a 26-18 lead going into halftime.
Keuka would pull away in the second half. Behind 58.8% shooting from the floor, the Green and Gold outscored Alfred 47-20 in the third and fourth quarters for the 73-38 victory.
Courtney Boyea and Sarah Tyler each contributed all of their scoring in the final two quarters. As a team, Keuka passed well, amassing 22 assists in the win.
