Women’s Basketball Splits Two NEAC Contests

Seniors Brittany Hadley (Jasper, N.Y./Jasper-Troupsburg) and Erica Pendrak (New Hartford, N.Y./New York Mills) combined for 33 points as the Keuka College women's basketball team knocked off SUNY Cobleskill 67-51 Saturday afternoon for the Wolfpack's first win of the year.

Hadley scored 17 points with two steals, and Pendrak added 16 points with four rebounds as Keuka outscored Cobleskill 36-20 in the second half to earn the win.

On Sunday, the Wolfpack suffered a 62-49 setback to SUNY Polytechnic (formerly SUNYIT) to end the fall semester with a 1-5 record overall, 1-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play.

Senior Amanda Kubitz (Spencerport, N.Y./E.J. Wilson) recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Hadley and Pendrak each scored eight points in the loss to SUNY Poly.

Against Cobleskill, the Wolfpack closed the game on a 21-5 run over the final 8:23 to help Keuka get its first win.

Sophomore Chinyere Ukwu (Roosevelt, N.Y./St. Dominic) matched her career-high with 12 rebounds, and added 6 points with 6 blocked shots. Classmate Tally McDonald (Romulus, N.Y./Romulus) set career-highs in points (eight) and rebounds (seven), while Kubitz added 7 points with 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals in the win.

Junior Mackenzie Cole (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) had 6 points with 5 rebounds and 3 assists for Keuka, which connected on 44.9 percent of its shots (22 of 49).

An aggressive Wolfpack defense limited Cobleskill to 25.9 percent shooting (15 of 58) while forcing 22 turnovers.

Keuka seized the lead for good on a layup from McDonald for a 50-48 lead with 8:23 remaining. Hadley then scored eight straight points for a 58-48 lead, and Keuka converted 9 of 10 free throws down the stretch to clinch its first win of the year.

Ukwu led the way rebounding as the Wolfpack enjoyed a 47-39 edge on the glass.

Taking on SUNY Poly, the Wolfpack trailed 6-0 and 12-2, but sophomore Samantha Blum (Niskayuna, N.Y./Colonie) and Kubitz each hit jumpers, and Cole hit a layup to pull Keuka within 15-8 with 11:43 remaining in the opening half.

But Poly seized control by closing out the half on a 27-10 run and led 42-18 at halftime.

Sophomore Katie Stuart (Tupper Lake, N.Y./Tupper Lake) scored Keuka's first five points of the second half, and Kubitz hit a pair of free throws to pull the Wolfpack within 46-25.

Pendrak added a '3', and Hadley converted a three-point play to slice the deficit to 48-31 with 13:15 remaining.

Trailing 53-32, the Wolfpack went on a 12-3 run as Kubitz scored five points, Hadley scored three points, and Pendrak and Cole each hit layups during the run.

Keuka pulled within 56-44 on a jumper from Kubitz with 3:25 remaining, but the Wolfpack could not get any closer and fell to the Wildcats.

The Wolfpack open the second semester with four consecutive road games, beginning at Cazenovia on January 10th, before hosting Lancaster Bible on January 23rd.
