Women’s Basketball Falls to St. Elizabeth

Junior Erica Pendrak (New Hartford, NY/New York Mills) scored a season-high 16 points and seniors Casey Chamberlain (Perry, NY/Perry) and Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) each scored 13 points, but the Keuka College women's basketball team fell to the College of St. Elizabeth 77-64 Saturday afternoon in Morristown, N.J.

Pendrak came off the bench and shot 55.6 percent from the field (5 of 9) and connected on 3 of 4 three-pointers for Keuka (10-6, 9-2 NEAC), which committed 22 turnovers in snapping its four-game conference winning streak.

Pendrak added three rebounds with three assists while Chamberlain snared nine rebounds and was 7 of 8 at the free-throw line for the Storm.

Senior Taylor Szwec (Candor, NY/Candor) had seven points with seven rebounds while junior Brittany Hadley (Jasper, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) added six points and two assists for the Green and Gold.

Gravel scored all of her points in the second half as the Storm shot 43.3 percent (13 of 30) from the floor after halftime.

The Storm trailed 7-0 and 13-4 before going on a 16-5 run. Pendrak scored seven points, Hadley added back-to-back jumpers and Szwec swished a '3' during the run as Keuka took a 20-19 lead with 7:54 remaining.

But the Screaming Eagles (13-6, 8-3) closed the half on a 20-8 run and took a 39-28 lead into halftime.

St. Elizabeth's lead swelled to 45-30 on a jumper from Danesha Triplett (12 points) with 17:44 remaining, but Chamberlain knocked down a jumper and Gravel hit a pair of '3s' off assists from Pendrak to pull the Storm within 48-38 with 15:06 remaining.

Keuka trailed by double-digits for most of the second half, but clawed within 69-64 on a '3' from Gravel with 2:43 remaining. But Cheyenne Grant (25 points) hit one of her eight '3s' as St. Elizabeth closed the game on an 8-0 run to earn the win.

The Green and Gold hit the road for a big NEAC contest at SUNYIT at 7 p.m. Monday night.
