Keuka College, N.Y. – The Keuka College Softball team swept Wells College on Wednesday in a North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
The Wolves won the opening game 8-0 and took the nightcap 16-4. Both games went only five innings and were ended due to the run rule.
Keuka College (5-5, 4-0 NEAC) was led by Alysha Bachman. The senior went a perfect 6-6 on the day while driving in six total runs. Freshman Jessie Hammers had four hits between the two games. Hammers scored five runs on the day and stole five bases.
Colleen Mooney got the win in Game 1 with a complete-game shutout. The freshman allowed only three hits and did not walk a batter. In Game 2, Janessa Vaadi earned the win the nightcap. She allowed only two earned runs and struck out a pair of batters.
Keuka College 8 vs. Wells College 0 – 5 innings
Keuka College got out to an early lead on Wednesday, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. The Wolves added three in the third with Bachman starting it off with an RBI double down the leftfield line. Keuka College scored three more in the fourth. The final run came in on an RBI single by Bachman. Mooney did the rest for Keuka, shutting out the Express, as Keuka College took Game 1 8-0 in five innings.
Lead Wolf: Alysha Bachman had an RBI hit in every inning that Keuka College scored. The senior had an RBI single in the first inning, an RBI double in the third inning, and an RBI single in the fourth. The three hits and three RBIs were career-highs for the senior.
Keuka College 16 vs. Wells College 4 – 5 innings
While Wells College scored the first run of the game, the lead did not last long as Keuka College scored three in the bottom of the first inning for the 3-1 lead. The Wolves added to that with three more in the second. Brittany Vergason, Katelyn Warren, and Alysha Bachman all hit RBI triples in the inning for Keuka College. The third inning saw three more runs for Keuka, two coming in on an RBI single by Warren. The Green and Gold grew the lead with seven runs on seven hits in the fourth. Wells scored three in the fifth, but it was not enough as Keuka College completed the sweep with a 16-4 victory in Game 2.
Lead Wolf: Katelyn Warren had only a pair of hits in the game, but she made them count. Warren accounted for seven runs in the game with two runs scored and five runs batted in. The five RBIs set a new career high for the junior.
