Keuka College Falls in First Game of NCAA Tournament

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Keuka College Softball team lost to hosts SUNY Cortland 7-3 on Friday afternoon in the opening game of the NCAA Regional at SUNY Cortland.

Keuka College (19-13) will next play in the Game 4 of the tournament against either Rowan University or Castleton University.

The Red Dragons got out to an early lead over the Green and Gold. SUNY Cortland combined four hits and three Keuka errors for a 5-0 lead after two innings.

Keuka College got one back in the fifth inning. Alysha Bachman singled to left field and Jessica Parmiter followed that with a single down the left field line that left runners at the corners with no outs. Janessa Vaadi reached first on an error that scored the run for Keuka. Next batter was Tally McDonald who ripped a line drive to shortstop. Unfortunately for Keuka, it was caught and Cortland doubled up the runner at second base.

SUNY Cortland added a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame on a home run to lead 7-1 following five innings of play.

The Green and Gold answered with two runs in the sixth. Mackenzie Cole walked and Mickenzie Palmer singled to put two runners with no outs. Katelyn Warren doubled down the left field line to score Cole.After a strikeout, Alysha Bachman grounded out, but scored the run for Keuka to make it 7-3 Cortland.

Keuka got a runner on in the seventh, but was unable to score as they fell to SUNY Cortland 7-3.
