KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Junior Alysha Bachman hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the eighth to give Keuka College a 6-5 victory over Cazenovia College on Sunday.
Keuka College (14-8, 12-2 NEAC) won the first game of the North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader by the score of 6-2.
The same two teams will square off on Monday as Keuka travels to Cazenovia for a doubleheader to complete the season series.
Cazenovia took a 2-1 lead in the fifth, but Keuka answered in the bottom of the inning. Janessa Vaadi led the inning off with a single. She scored on a two-run home run to right field by Mackenzie Cole, giving Keuka the 3-2 advantage.
Keuka added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Alysha Bachman and Janessa Vaadi drove in runs and Bachman scored on a wild pitch. Starting pitcher Liz Warren went the complete game, allowing only one earned run and striking out four in the 6-2 victory.
Cazenovia got on the board in the third inning of Game 2 thanks to five hits and a Keuka error. The Wildcats plated four in the frame for the 4-0 lead.
Keuka got one back on a double steal with Sam Blum taking second base and Janessa Vaadi scoring on the play. Cazenovia answered that with a run in the top of the fourth as they carried a 5-1 lead into the sixth inning.
Mackenzie Cole continued her hot day with a leadoff triple. She scored on a sacrifice fly by Katelyn Warren. But Keuka would only get one run in the sixth. The Green and Gold would go into the bottom of the seventh trailing 5-2.
Alysha Bachman and Janessa Vaadi led off the bottom of the seventh with a pair of infield singles. They both scored on a double by Jessica Parmiter. Parmiter advanced to third on the play due to a Cazenovia error. Maddie Dupuis singled to right centerfield to score Parmiter, tying the game at 5-5. Sam Blum had Keuka's fifth consecutive hit of the inning to give the Green and Gold first and second, no outs, but Keuka was unable to score. The game, tied at 5-5, went to extra innings.
With a runner starting on second base, Cazenovia hit the first pitch from Brianna Bush into center for a single, putting runners at the corners with no outs. Bush got the next batter to flyout with the runners not advancing. With one out, a groundball was hit to Janessa Vaadi at shortstop. She threw home to Mickenzie Palmer for the tag out of the runner attempting to score. Bush got another groundout to short to end the inning with the game still tied at 5-5.
Keuka College started pinch runner Nicole Wright on second base. She moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Mickenzie Palmer. Alysha Bachman came to the plate and hit a single to right centerfield, scoring Wright and giving Keuka the 6-5 victory.
