The Keuka College softball team saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday afternoon after the Wolfpack were swept by SUNY Cobleskill in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader in Cobleskill, N.Y.
Keuka (10-6, 10-4 NEAC) dropped a 10-2 decision in five innings in the opener, and fell to Cobleskill (19-2, 13-1) 5-3 in the nightcap as the Fighting Tigers took over sole possession of first place in the NEAC North Division.
Despite the sweep, Keuka remains in second place in the NEAC North.
Junior Jessica Parmiter (Cortland, N.Y./Homer) hit a two-run home run in the opener, but the Wolfpack managed only four hits off of Cobleskill starter Erin Wadsworth.
Wadsworth had an RBI double to stake the Fighting Tigers to a 1-0 lead heading to the second.
Freshman Maddie Dupuis (Cohoes, N.Y./Cohoes) led off the top of the second with a double, and she scored on Parmiter's two-run blast as the Wolfpack took a 2-1 lead.
Junior Liz Warren (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison) worked around a walk and a single in the bottom of the inning. Cobleskill had runners at second and third, but Warren ended the threat with a groundout.
After Keuka was held scoreless in the third, Angela Fix hit a three-run homer as the Fighting Tigers seized a 4-2 lead. Cobleskill tacked on four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to complete the mercy rule win.
In the nightcap, Warren was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Palmer and Dupuis each had an RBI, and sophomore Samantha Blum (Niskayuna, N.Y./Colonie) smacked a solo home run in the loss.
With one out in the first, Blum launched a solo home run, her second round-tripper of the year, and after Warren doubled and Palmer reached on an error, Dupuis plated Warren with an RBI single for a 2-0 lead.
Cobleskill got a run back in the bottom of the inning, but the Green and Gold threatened to add to their lead in the second. Sophomores Alysha Bachman (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse) and Tally McDonald (Romulus, N.Y./Romulus) had back-to-back singles, and the runners advanced to second and third following a groundout.
But with only one out, Wadsworth recorded back-to-back strikeouts to escape the jam with Keuka ahead 2-1.
Sophomore Brianna Bush (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan), the NEAC Pitcher of the Week, held Cobleskill scoreless in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings, stranding runners in scoring position in the second, third, and fifth innings.
Keuka extended its lead to 3-1 when Palmer hit an RBI single in the top of the fifth, but the Fighting Tigers broke the game open in the sixth, scoring four runs on four hits, a walk and an error to complete the sweep.
McDonald was 2-for-3, while Bush allowed five runs (four earned) with seven strikeouts and only one walk in the complete game.
Keuka hosts SUNY Cobleskill on Friday and SUNY Polytechnic on Senior Day Saturday in a pair of big NEAC doubleheaders.
