Wolves Extend Streak to Five

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Volleyball team defeated Purchase College and Alvernia University on Saturday, both in straight sets, to extend their win streak to five matches.

Keuka College (7-7, 3-5 NEAC) swept all three matches at the Keuka College Invitational at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center. The Wolves were led by junior Connor Gail with 22 total kills. Spencer Avery finished with 52 assists overall between the two matches. The senior had 20 assists in the first match against Purchase and 32 in the second against Alvernia. Junior Alex Riley was a defensive force for the Green and Gold with seven total blocks. Libero Nick Cantando also contributed to the defensive efforts with 16 digs in the pair of wins.

Keuka College 3 (25, 25, 25) vs. Purchase College 0 (18, 11, 20)

The Wolves started the second day of the Keuka College Invitational by jumping out to a 9-4 lead over the Panthers in the first set. The Wolves would extend their lead 15-6 off a five-point run on the serve of Alex Riley. They would go on to win the first set 25-18. The Wolves again were able to jump out to an early 12-6 lead and ride that lead to a dominating 25-11 second set win. Highlighting the set was a long serving run from Jared Kucko that included four aces. Keuka College would with their first match of the day in straight sets winning the final set 25-20 against the Panthers.

Lead Wolf: Connor Gail lead the team in both kills and digs. Gail had eight kills on a .312 hitting percentage. Gail added nine digs and two assists to his totals for the first match of the day.

Keuka College 3 (25, 27, 25) vs. Alvernia University 0 (15, 25, 13)

In a very intense first set, the Wolves jumped out to another early lead, 8-3. However, the Crusaders battled back to bring it to within two points. However the Wolves would not go away. They reestablished control in the set and went on to the 25-15 victory. The Wolves trailed for the first time on the day in the second set when they went down 7-3, but Keuka would not go down without a fight. They brought the score to within one on multiple occasions before finally tying the set at 24-24. The two teams then went back and forth battling for the second set. Keuka would take a 2-0 lead in the match after pulling out the second set 27-25. The third set was back and forth until Keuka was able to create separation at the score of 12-8. From that point on, the Wolves took control scoring seven straight points on Christian Nickerson's serve. The Wolves would win the third and final set 25-13.

Lead Wolf: Connor Gail built on his great first match by adding 14 more kills with a .478 hitting percentage. Gail also had a dig and one service ace in the win.

  • The Wolves improved to 3-0 against the Purchase College Panthers with today's 3-0 match victory
  • Today was the first meeting ever between Keuka and Alvernia. The Crusaders are in their first year as a varsity program

Coming up for Keuka College: Keuka College returns to North Eastern Athletic Conference play next weekend, playing a crossover event against Penn St.-Altoona, Wilson College, and Lancaster Bible College. The weekend is hosted by Penn St.-Altoona, but the matches will be played at Mount Aloysius College.
