KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Volleyball team defeated Southern Vermont College in straight sets to open the Keuka College Invitational at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center Friday night.
Keuka College (5-7, 3-5 NEAC) was led by senior Connor Gail (Euclid, Ohio / Villa Angela-St. Joseph) with 11 kills on a .421 hitting percentage. Alex Riley (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) added 10 kills on a .438 hitting percentage in the win. Spencer Avery (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier) continued his excellent play with 33 assists for Keuka.
Keuka College 3 (25, 25, 25) vs. Southern Vermont College 0 (18, 16, 19)
Keuka College lead by four points through much of the first set, and would go on to win the set 25-18. The second set started out much tighter than the first, as the score would remain at a one point margin until the Wolves created some separation with a lead of 16-11. The Wolves would establish a two sets to none lead with a commanding 25-16 win. The Wolves would jump out to an early 8-3 lead over the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont College. The Wolves would control the match the rest of the way winning the third and final set 25-19.
Playing the Percentages: Alex Riley and Connor Gail did an excellent job of hitting to as they had a .438 and .421 hitting percentage. Riley had 10 kills on 16 attempts and Gail had 11 on 19 attempts.
- With today's win Keuka College ended a two match losing streak against Southern Vermont College and tied the all-time series between the two teams at 2-2.
- The Wolves would improve to 12-2 in Keuka College Invitational matches.
- Alex Riley's .438 hitting percentage ranked 5th on the all-time single game 3-set match records.
- Connor Gail's .421 hitting percentage ranked right behind Riley in 6th place on the same list.
Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves will conclude the Keuka College Invitational on Saturday with a pair of matches. Keuka College will host Purchase College at 12pm and Alvernia University at 2pm at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.
