ALBANY, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Volleyball team opened their 2017 season in a tri-match at Sage College on Saturday. The Wolves defeated Mt. Ida 3-1 in the opening match, but fell to the host Gators 3-0 in the second.
The Wolves (1-1) will now prepare for their North Eastern Athletic Conference opener next weekend. Keuka College will face Wilson College on Friday and play Penn St.-Altoona and Lancaster Bible College on Saturday. All three matches will be played at SUNY Poly in Marcy, N.Y.
In the first match against Mt. Ida, Keuka College used a balanced offensive attack. Jared Kucko led with Wolves with a career-high 14 kills. Alex Riley also set a new career mark with 11 kills for the Wolves. Facilitating the offense was Chris Corcoran. The junior had 43 assists and also helped on the defensive end with a career-best 18 digs. Kucko also had 10 digs for the double-double.
Keuka College got out to a fast lead using efficient offense. They hit .310 in the opening set with 13 kills, taking the set 25-17. The match was leveled in the second. A back and forth set saw both teams hitting .029. In the end, Mt. Ida pulled it out 26-24 to level the match at 1-1. The Wolves continued to attack well in the third. Again they had 13 kills in the set and again they took the set 25-17. Keuka College got out to a fast 4-0 lead in the fourth set. They remained in control, leading by as many as nine in the frame. The Wolves continued onto the 25-19 set victory, winning the match 3-1.
In the second match of the day, Keuka College's offense was not as efficient. They totaled 19 errors in the match against Sage as the Wolves lost to the Gators 3-0. The Keuka offense was led by Connor Gail with 11 kills. Chris Corcoran finished with 23 assists and a team-leading eight digs for Keuka.
