Junior Connor Hinman (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) recorded 14 kills with 9 digs and 2 blocks, and freshman Tim Jackson (Farmington, N.Y./Victor) added nine kills as the Keuka College men's volleyball team swept Penn State-Behrend in three sets Sunday to win its home opener.
Hinman sported a .370 hitting percentage (four errors in 27 attempts), while Jackson hit .286 (three errors in 21 attempts) as the Wolfpack (3-2) prevailed by scores of 25-23, 30-28 and 25-19.
Freshman Aaron Brill (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes) added 10 kills with three errors in 21 attempts (.304 hitting percentage), while junior Tom Campbell (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) recorded five kills with two blocks in the sweep.
Junior Josh Makin (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) finished with 5 kills, 2 blocks and 2 digs for Keuka, which hit .300 as a team (45 kills, 15 errors in 100 attempts) against the Nittany Lions (4-2).
Keuka led for most of the opening set, but the lead shrunk to 23-22 until Hinman sent home a kill to bring up set point. Hinman then clinched the opening set with a powerful kill down the right side as Keuka prevailed 25-23.
In the second set, the two teams traded points and Keuka trailed 15-13 until a kill from Jackson made it a one-point contest.
Down 16-14, Brill hammered home a kill and added an ace to even the set at 16-all. Brill added a kill for a 20-18 lead, and Hinman and Makin each added kills to put the Wolfpack up 23-20.
Behrend won the next three points to knot the set at 23, but a kill from Brill brought up set point. Behrend staved off several set points, but Hinman and Jackson had back-to-back kills to lift the Green and Gold to a 30-28 win in the second set.
The Wolfpack pounced on the Nittany Lions in the third set and never trailed in completing the sweep, Keuka's third sweep in five matches.
Keuka hosts the annual Keuka Restaurant Invitational Friday through Sunday.
