The Keuka College men's volleyball team earned a split of Saturday's tri match at D'Youville College. The Storm (6-12) fell to Medaille College in straight sets before ousting D'Youville in four sets in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Storm fell to Medaille by scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-5 before knocking off D'Youville 25-23, 19-25, 25-20 and 25-21.
Sophomore Connor Hinman (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) recorded six kills with four digs, classmate Tom Campbell (Penfield, NY/Penfield) added four kills with three blocks while freshman John Sprague (Fairport, NY/Penfield) had 14 assists in the loss to Medaille.
Sophomore Josh Makin (Lethbridge, Alberta/Catholic Central) added six digs, classmate Aaron Rydzynski (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) had five digs while senior Devin Lesch (San Diego, Calif./El Cajon Valley) recorded three blocks for Keuka.
Taking on host D'Youville, Hinman posted his fifth double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs and Lesch recorded 11 kills with 4 blocks and 3 digs for Keuka, which saw five student-athletes record eight or more kills.
Freshman Derek Hosken (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) added 8 five with 4 blocks and 2 service aces, Campbell had 10 digs with nine kills and junior Ryan Kelly (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) recorded 9 kills with 8 digs, 4 blocks, 3 aces and 2 assists in the win as Keuka hit .229 as a team (51 kills with 19 errors in 140 total attacks).
Lesch hit .444 with three errors in 18 attempts while Hosken hit .286 after two errors in 21 attempts. Lesch, Kelly and Hosken all set season-bests for kills in a match.
Sprague recorded a career-high 43 assists with six digs while Makin added 11 digs for the Storm.
Keuka is hosting the second Keuka Invitational of the 2014 season on Friday and Saturday, when Wells College, Hilbert College, Community College of Rhode Island and NYU-Polytechnic Institute come to campus for a two-day competition.
The Storm take on NYU-Poly at 6 p.m. Friday night, and CC Rhode Island at 11 a.m. and Hilbert College at 3 p.m. Saturday.
