Men’s Soccer Defeats Cazenovia 2-1 on Senior Day

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Soccer team defeated North Eastern Athletic Conference foe Cazenovia College 2-1 on Saturday at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Senior Christian Cupello scored the late winner for Keuka College (11-7, 8-3 NEAC). Chris Millard also scored for the Wolves and Ryan Mavretish made four saves in goal.

Keuka College pressured Cazenovia early on a rainy Saturday. The Wolves had an early opportunity on a point-blank shot but it was stopped by the Wildcat keeper. It would not deter Keuka as the Wolves continued to push and took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. Chris Millard raced down the right side and beat the goalie to the near post for the lead. Cazenovia had a chance to answer minutes later but Ryan Mavretish made a diving save in goal to keep the lead. Keuka College would lead 1-0 at the half.

In the second half, Cazenovia College would draw level in the 65th minute as the Wildcats scored on a 35-yard shot off of a free kick. The game would progress to the final minutes with overtime in sight until the 80th minute. Keuka College was awarded a free kick from the left side five yards from the end line. Christian Cupello took the kick and put it in the back of the net to give the Wolves the 2-1 advantage. Keuka College would continue onto the 2-1 victory on Saturday.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves have completed the regular season with an 8-3 conference record. Keuka has qualified for the North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament. The Wolves will learn their seed and matchup when it is released by the conference on Sunday.
