The Cougars got out to a very fast start against Keuka College on Sunday. Kean scored on their first shot of the game, 2:22 into the first half. Keuka College flipped the script in the 12th minute as Samba Doukhansy found the back of the net on Keuka's first shot of the game to level the score. The goal sparked the Keuka attack as Doukhansy would have three more chances in the coming minutes. He was unable to connect on his latter attempts and the game would go to halftime tied 1-1.

The Wolves controlled the play early in the second half. Keuka College built multiple chances but they were saved by the Cougars' keeper. Following a save by Ryan Velte for Keuka, the Wolves built an attack. Abdikarim Maalo found Claude Tuyishimire. The junior buried the ball in the back of the net for his second goal in as many days, giving Keuka College a 2-1 lead. With the lead, Keuka College focused on defense. Kean would give the Wolves everything they had, totaling 16 shots in the final half hour, but the Keuka defense would hold as the Wolves hung onto the 2-1 victory

KC Notes:

  • Sunday was the first ever meeting between Keuka College and Kean University
  • It was the first time in program history that Keuka has gone 2-0 in a visiting tournament. Keuka College has posted a perfect record in their home Lakefront Classic three times, most recently in 2014
  • Doukhansy and Tuyishimire have each scored in back-to-back games, each for the second time in their careers
  • Kean had a 31-11 advantage in shots. It was the most shots Keuka College has allowed in a game since they allowed 31 in a 2-2 draw at Penn St.-Abington in 2013

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves now have a week to prepare for the start of North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Green and Gold will travel to Morrisville State next Saturday to face the Mustangs. Last season, Morrisville defeated Keuka 4-2 as the Mustangs have won the last seven meetings.
