KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Senior Paulin Kolodja curled a corner kick into the goal with 4:33 left to play to life Keuka College to a victory over Penn St.-Berks on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolves (8-2-3, 6-1-3 NEAC) will stay at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex for the remainder of the regular season. They are back in action next Saturday, as Keuka College hosts Bryn Athyn College.
The goal was Kolodja's seventh of the season. He leads Keuka College with 23 points on the season. Willie Romero made four saves in goal for the shutout.
Both teams had good opportunities to scoring in the first half, but neither team could break through. Keuka College had an 11-5 advantage in shots and 6-1 advantage in shots on goal. The goalkeepers both Keuka and Penn St.-Berks were up to the task as the game went to halftime scoreless.
The second half played much like the first, with both teams creating chances, but all coming up unsuccessful. Penn St.-Berks had one of the better chances of the half in the 74th minute. The ball became loose in the box and the Nittany Lions let a shot go. Goalkeeper Willie Romero made a diving save to his left to keep the game scoreless. The Wolves countered with pressure. They had three straight corner kicks with 10 minutes left to play, but every attempt was saved. In the 85th minute, Paulin Kolodja found himself open after a spin move 20 yards out. His try was tipped over the net by a diving goalie. On the ensuing corner kick, Kolodja sent a right footed in-swinger from the left corner towards goal. The ball found the back of the net to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead. Keuka College maintained that advantage for the conference victory.
