Junior Joe Maier (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) recorded the game-tying goal in the 70th minute as the Keuka College men's soccer team remained perfect in conference play with a 1-all, double-overtime draw with Penn College Saturday in Williamsport, Pa.
Trailing 1-0, Keuka (5-1-1, 2-0-1 NEAC) lined up for a set piece, and off a scrum in front of the goal, Maier converted in the box to even the score for the Green and Gold
Penn College (3-4-1, 1-3-1 NEAC) keeper Hector Guerrero stopped three shots on goal during the final eight minutes of regulation and both overtime periods to keep the score tied.
The Wildcats fired two shots on Keuka College junior keeper Preston Vick (Kendall, N.Y./Kendall) in the first overtime, but each time Penn College threatened, Vick and the defense had an answer.
The second OT belonged to the Wolfpack, as Keuka College outshot Penn 3-0 but couldn't net the game-winning goal.
Freshman Romeo Katanga (Manchester, N.H./Central) broke free for a shot in the 116th minute, but Guerrero (eight saves) was there for the stop.
Vick finished with six saves for the Green and Gold, who did not allow Penn College to get a shot on goal until Tristan Smith converted a penalty kick in the 55th minute.
The stout Keuka defense was led by Vick, Maier, sophomores Zach Briggs (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and Ben Geloso (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) and freshman Noah Titus (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas).
The Green and Gold travel to NEAC rival Morrisville State for a 6 p.m. conference clash Wednesday evening.
